DENVER, April 3, 2011 – Due to budgetary shortfalls the Medical Marijuana Enforcement Division (MMED) has temporarily transferred 20 employees to other divisions within the Department of Revenue (DOR). The MMED a cash fund within DOR is still in operation. The division expects to restore staffing levels as revenues allow and may return to full staffing as early as the beginning of the new fiscal year on July 1. In the interim the medical marijuana industry as well as the public can be assured that licensing and enforcement will continue.
Shawn Coleman, Executive Director of the Cannabis Business Alliance made the following statement echoing the continuance of activity at MMED. “Since the passage of regulation in 2010 the medical cannabis industry has been in clear and unambiguous compliance with the state law and will continue to do so during this time of temporary shortfalls in the regulatory division.”
